What is meditation?

MEDITATION

  • Meditation is the practice of dedicating time to sit in silence to practice being more alert to what’s happening in the present moment.
  • To do this, you concentrate your awareness on to one specific anchor, such as sounds in your environment, your breathing, or sensations in our body.
  • Your mind will wander, but the more you practice, the better you get at noticing when it is drifting and the sooner you can bring it back to focus on your anchor

MINDFULNESS

  • Meditation is like practicing playing an instrument or sport, and just as the game or recital is application of what you practiced, mindfulness is the application of what you practice in meditation
  • It is a momentary check in to the present moment to break the ongoing pattern of the mind being lost in unconscious negative thoughts about the past and fearful and anxious thoughts about the future.

About GentleMind's Founder

After leading high performing teams across 5 different industries over the last 15 years, Jonathan recognized that regardless of the industry or the organization, stress and anxiety are pervasive. This leads to a significant impact on productivity, creativity, and performance.

Having improved his own professional and personal performance by studying and practicing mindfulness and meditation over the past decade, it took a very challenging life experience to provide Jonathan with the courage to launch GentleMind in 2014.

Jonathan’s goal is to help others accelerate their mindfulness learning journey to uncover ways to improve their professional and personal lives.

He is helping several organizations and their teams improve their focus and well being by running guided mindfulness sessions.
